TRAVEL DIARY: SUNWAY LAGOON AND PETRONAS, MALAYSIA

We had only one whole day in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and there were two must-visit items on our list: Sunway Lagoon and Petronas Towers.

We heard good reviews about Sunway Lagoon so we decided to check out the place.

Before we left Singapore, we already bought discounted tickets at Cebu Air Travel Agency for SGD35 per person. If you will buy tickets at Sunway Lagoon it will cost RM170 (SGD54) per person.

SUNWAY LAGOON

The theme park is open from 10am until 6pm, so we woke up early to eat breakfast before hailing an Uber to bring us to the theme park.

Upon arriving at the theme park, we exchanged our vouchers at the ticketing counter for the theme park bracelet. By 11am, we were already inside the theme park. We rented a locker for RM43, which you may use the whole day and can be opened anytime, so that we can leave our bags without worrying for their safety.

We started by dipping in the wave pool. Then we queued up for the largest slide in the park which is called the Vuvuzela. The slide can accommodate up to 6 pax in each raft, and is launched from a tower which is 11 storeys high, twisting and turning before finally dropping into the world’s largest funnel - hence the name (a vuvuzela is a large plastic horn used for noise-making).

My friends and I would agree that this was the highlight of our day. We wanted to queue up for the slide again, but it rained in the afternoon and we were already pressed for time.

After lunch, we rode the Waterplexx 5D attraction, which showcases a pirate’s adventure. It was cool at first. The next thing you know, you are being hunted by the pirates. It was kinda scary, especially for the little kids.

After the show, we went to the surf beach. Coincidentally, while we were there, the wave started and we enjoyed riding through it.

By 4pm we decided to take a shower so that we can have early dinner and see the Petronas Towers. Sunway Lagoon is a 30-minute drive away from the city, so we took another Uber that brought us to Suria KLCC. We had dinner at Nando’s, and decided to look around the mall. Just outside Suria KLCC is the Petronas Towers at its full glory.

PETRONAS TOWERS

The Petronas Towers was hailed as the world’s tallest building from 1998 to 2004 before losing its title to Taipei 101. Nevertheless, seeing the Petronas Towers, especially at night, is very dreamy. How the lights reflect its steel body is really mesmerizing.

As we were very tired that day, we decided to book a massage at the mall near our AirBnb unit and called it a day.

The next day we woke up very early for our Singapore flight. We did not want to take chance and be left behind by the plane again.

It was a short yet very memorable stay in Malaysia indeed.
